Integration of economies and gameplay

Chang expressed his belief that the integration of economies and gameplay across various games can be achieved through blockchains and non-fungible tokens (NFTs). He emphasized that this combination is innovative in the sense that it overcomes three significant barriers in the gaming world: giving users ownership of in-game assets, creating connections between different games, and tearing down the boundary between games and reality.

Chang predicted that all games would evolve into blockchain-based games within the next three years. He presented WEMIX Play, the company’s blockchain game platform, as being fully equipped to support such a transition, with all the necessary features to provide blockchain game services.

In a significant move towards realizing this vision, WEMIX Play has recently inked onboarding contracts with two gaming firms. One of them is MetaTokyo Studio, a game developer based in Japan, and the other is Skyjet Software, a Lithuania-based game publisher. WEMIX Play users will soon have the exciting opportunity to enjoy MetaTokyo Studio’s futuristic science fiction game, Chromata, and Skyjet Software’s thrilling 3D helicopter shooting game, Skybreakers.

Prime Minister Kishida’s speech

Notably, the event also saw a video speech from Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, who expressed his enthusiasm for Web3 and its potential to revolutionize society by innovating the existing Internet framework. According to Minister Kishida, the Japanese government is committed to fostering an environment conducive to Web3 initiatives.

The Japanese Prime Minister further anticipated that the WebX conference would lead to enhanced business cooperation between Japanese and foreign companies. He also highlighted that leading Japanese firms would unveil major projects aimed at establishing valuable economic zones within the metaverse.

BitKeep Changes Name to Bitget Wallet Following Acquisition

BitKeep Changes Name to Bitget Wallet Following AcquisitionContinuing the trend set by industry giants like Binance, KuCoin, and OKX, cross-chain wallet provider BitKeep has undergone a transformation, rebranding itself as Bitget Wallet. This strategic shift comes on the heels of the wallet’s acquisition by the prominent Seychelles-headquartered crypto exchange, which acquired a controlling stake for $30 million in March.Photo by Jon Tyson on UnsplashBitget Swap unveiledThe rebranding announcement, made on August 10, coincides with the unveiling of Bitget Swap, a novel cross-chain swap mechanism integrated into the wallet. This innovative feature draws liquidity from a network of approximately 100 decentralized exchanges spanning across 20 chains. The move positions Bitget Wallet as a versatile platform catering to traders seeking fluidity and efficiency across diverse cryptocurrencies.Bitget Wallet users are set to benefit from an enticing proposition as the exchange merges its offerings. A collective Bitget User Protection Fund, boasting a substantial $360 million pool, has been established. The fund is anchored by 6,500 Bitcoin, ensuring robust safeguards against security incidents. This initiative finds its origins in the wake of the FTX exchange collapse last November, with the fund’s value boosted by a subsequent $60 million capital appreciation due to the rally in Bitcoin prices. The synergy between the two businesses has already borne fruit for Bitget. Last month, it clarified that it had surpassed 20 million users, with the wallet integration believed to be responsible for a large part of that user growth.Growing painsBitKeep’s past wasn’t without its challenges. A security breach occurred in December when the wallet’s Android Package Kit (APK) was compromised by malware, causing losses of around $8 million among users who had installed the compromised package. In a commendable move, the company fully compensated the affected users on March 29, signaling its commitment to rectifying such setbacks.Moka Han, Chief Operating Officer of Bitget Wallet, underscored the wallet’s security-focused approach. Han revealed that cross-chain bridges are subject to stringent third-party security audits by notable entities like SlowMist and CertiK before deployment. Rigorous post-deployment monitoring further guarantees a resilient security environment.Payment channel integrationIn its recent evolution, Bitget Wallet has integrated five stable payment channels, including Banxa, Simplex, Alchemy Pay, MoonPay, and FaTPay. These integrations empower users to conveniently purchase cryptocurrencies within the wallet using methods such as credit cards, Google Pay, and Apple Pay. Additionally, the wallet has introduced a peer-to-peer marketplace, characterized by comprehensive security measures that protect both buyers and sellers.Bitget Wallet’s appeal extends far and wide across the Asia Pacific (APAC) region, boasting an impressive user base exceeding 10 million individuals. This figure constitutes nearly half of MetaMask’s user count, signifying the wallet’s considerable popularity. The company didn’t allow the rebrand milestone to pass without taking the opportunity to further promote its offering. On Thursday, it commenced a “Mystery Box Airdrop” event, offering new Bitget Wallet users the opportunity to claim individual rewards of up to 1,000 USDT.Biget’s wallet integration is in line with the changing landscape of crypto exchanges generally, with other prominent players such as OKX, KuCoin, and Binance having also ventured into the realm of self-custody wallets, enhancing their service offerings beyond traditional exchange operations.

Thai SEC Implements Measures to Protect Crypto Investors

Thai SEC Implements Measures to Protect Crypto InvestorsIn response to the crypto lending crisis that unfolded in 2022, prompting companies like BlockFi and Celsius to declare bankruptcy, Thailand’s Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has introduced new regulations aimed at safeguarding investors in the digital assets space.Photo by Jakob Owens on UnsplashDisclosing risk warningsThe guidelines, issued on Monday, require digital asset service providers to provide comprehensive warnings that emphasize the risks associated with cryptocurrency trading. All platforms must prominently display a message stating: “Cryptocurrencies are high risk. Please study and understand the risks of cryptocurrencies thoroughly, because you may lose the entire investment amount.” Prior to utilizing the service, users must consent to and acknowledge the risks.Crypto lending prohibitionIn addition to the risk disclaimer, the new guidelines explicitly forbid service providers from using customer funds for lending or investment purposes. This ban on crypto lending services prevents platforms from offering any returns on deposited crypto to customers. By implementing these measures, the Thai SEC aims to enhance investor protection and shield investors from the risks posed by lending services. The regulations are scheduled to take effect at the end of the month.Today’s guidelines are the product of months of deliberation. Discussions surrounding investor protection regulations commenced on September 1, 2022, when the SEC acknowledged the necessity for security warnings by cryptocurrency businesses to disclose the risks associated with trading digital assets. The prohibition on digital asset operators offering deposit-taking and lending services was deliberated during meetings held on December 1, 2022, and May 11, 2023.Response to crypto platform failuresThe introduction of these investor protection rules follows a significant crisis in the crypto lending sector that unfolded during the bear market of 2022. Several crypto lending firms, which had collected billions of dollars in customer deposits by promising substantial returns, collapsed during this period. Prominent lending companies such as Celsius and BlockFi filed for bankruptcy, resulting in investors’ funds being trapped in lengthy bankruptcy proceedings. The Thai SEC’s proactive approach in implementing these regulations reflects the growing concern for investor welfare within the cryptocurrency industry. By requiring clearer risk disclosures and prohibiting the use of customer assets for lending and investment, the SEC aims to instill greater confidence and transparency in the digital asset service sector.Crypto academyThailand’s SEC has run other initiatives in efforts to better protect investors. In January the Commission launched the SEC Crypto Academy, an e-learning course. The objective of that initiative was to provide investors with a basic understanding of the digital assets space prior to investing. At the time of the launch of the course, the SEC said that “the more you know your investments, the less risk you will have.”These latest regulations not only serve as a protective measure for Thai investors but also set an example for other jurisdictions to evaluate and enhance their own regulatory frameworks. As the crypto industry continues to evolve, prioritizing investor protection becomes crucial in fostering a more sustainable and responsible ecosystem.
