U.S. Marshals to handle DOJ Bitcoin sales, not exchanges: Glassnode co-founders

January 09, 2025, 10:47 AM
According to Negentropic, the X account of Glassnode co-founders Yann Allemann and Jan Happel, the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) does not sell confiscated Bitcoin (BTC) through cryptocurrency exchanges, clarifying that confiscated Bitcoin is transferred to the U.S. Marshals who will oversee the sale of these assets through public auctions. This statement comes after reports that the DOJ authorized the sale of $6.5 billion worth of Bitcoin seized from the dark web marketplace Silk Road.
