$500 million valuation

The funding round, led by Polychain Capital and Shanghai-headquartered Qiming Venture Partners, has resulted in a valuation of $500 million for p0x Labs, according to a blog post published by the project on Wednesday. This equity-based investment demonstrates a growing interest in not only the project’s token but also the team behind it.

Manta Network aims to leverage zero-knowledge (ZK) technology to address the scalability challenges and privacy concerns prevalent on the Ethereum network. By harnessing zero-knowledge proofs, Manta enables users to verify the authenticity of information without disclosing the underlying data.

This approach provides individuals with complete control over their identities while mitigating the risks of surveillance. Consequently, Manta Network is seeking to attract users who have reservations about utilizing DeFi protocols due to the transparent nature of transactions on public blockchain networks.

At the recent EthCC event held in Paris, the project unveiled the testnet for its Layer 2 network, known as Manta Pacific. This testnet operates in an environment with low gas fees, fostering cost-effective transactions for users. Manta Pacific is designed to complement the existing Layer 1 solution, Manta Atlantic, which focuses on achieving compliant on-chain privacy.

VC support

Luke Pearson, an investor at Polychain Capital, expressed his enthusiasm for Manta Network’s expansion within the Ethereum ecosystem and confirmed Polychain’s continued support through this Series A funding round. Meanwhile, Yi Tang, Principal at Qiming Venture Partners, believes that their contribution will not only help Manta Network penetrate the Asian market but also attract the attention of Web2 brands.

With the additional funding, p0x Labs aims to establish a global presence for Manta Network. Kenny Li, a core contributor at Manta Network, emphasized the significance of partnering with one of China’s largest investors to gain a stronger foothold in Asia, particularly China. The team is enthusiastic about the opportunities this collaboration will bring.

Industry partnerships

Manta Network has already witnessed substantial demand for its offerings, with partnerships with projects such as Arbitrum and Linea resulting in the creation of over 300,000 zero-knowledge soulbound tokens. These tokens enable the verification of on-chain identities without compromising data confidentiality. Additionally, the native Manta Wallet has garnered more than 200,000 installations, and innovative features like email-based notifications have contributed to a collective user base exceeding 1.5 million users.

Looking ahead, the newly launched testnet with its plug-and-play functionality is expected to streamline the development process for Manta Network’s ecosystem. Developers will be able to allocate their time and resources more efficiently toward building their core products, driving innovation within the zero-knowledge space.

The successful funding round and the launch of the Layer 2 testnet mark significant milestones for Manta Network and p0x Labs. With continued support from prominent investors, Manta Network appears to be setting itself up to unlock the true potential of zero-knowledge technology and drive adoption across various industries.

Iran caps stablecoin transactions amid currency devaluation and sanctions

Iranian authorities last week introduced new restrictions on stablecoin transactions, limiting individuals to an annual purchase cap of $5,000 and a total holding limit of $10,000. According to a report from Iran International, licensed digital platforms have one month from the effective date to enforce these new regulations on all users.Photo by Hadis Malekie on UnsplashRial decline fuels stablecoin uptakeThe move coincides with the continued devaluation of the national currency, with the Iranian rial reaching an all-time low of 1,136,500 per U.S. dollar on Sept. 27. This currency plunge occurred just before the reimposition of United Nations sanctions, which took effect at 00:00 UTC on Sept. 28. Since then, the rial has weakened further, reaching a new low of 1,170,000 per U.S. dollar as of publication, as per data from Bonbast.  For many Iranians, stablecoins like USDT have become an essential financial tool, providing a hedge against inflation and a means to transfer funds internationally, bypassing the traditional banking system. The adoption of these U.S. dollar-pegged digital assets has reportedly grown since the escalation of conflicts with Israel and the U.S. earlier in the year. These new financial controls follow recent actions by the U.S. to counter what it describes as Iranian "shadow banking" networks. On Sept. 16, the U.S. Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) sanctioned two Iranian financial operatives and their network of companies in Hong Kong and the United Arab Emirates (UAE). A press release stated these entities used cryptocurrency and front companies to transfer funds from oil sales, benefiting Iran’s IRGC-Qods Force (QF) and its Ministry of Defense and Armed Forces Logistics (MODAFL). The U.S. Treasury asserts these funds are funneled into regional proxy groups and the development of advanced weapons programs.U.S. dollar to rial chart Source: BonbastHack on Iran’s top crypto platformIran’s private digital currency sector has also faced mounting security pressures. In June, Nobitex, the country’s largest crypto exchange, was hit by a major exploit that drained about $90 million in assets, including Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), Dogecoin (DOGE), Ripple (XRP), Solana (SOL), Tron (TRX), and TON. A pro-Israel hacker group known as Predatory Sparrow, or Gonjeshke Darande, later claimed responsibility in a post on X. The attack took place during heightened military tensions that began with Israeli strikes on Iranian military and nuclear facilities on June 18, 2025. According to analysis by TRM Labs, digital assets are increasingly integral to Iran's efforts to navigate international sanctions and advance its geopolitical interests. Iranian exchanges, including Nobitex, process billions in cryptocurrency transactions. These platforms have been noted for permitting large withdrawals without stringent Know Your Customer (KYC) protocols and for employing sophisticated methods to obscure the origins and destinations of funds. At the same time, these exchanges are not used solely for state-level purposes. For many ordinary Iranians, grappling with inflation and economic isolation, digital assets represent a practical tool for safeguarding savings and maintaining limited access to the global economy, underscoring the dual role that cryptocurrency plays in the country.

India’s SEBI head wants instant settlement to counter crypto threat

The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) is set to introduce a same-day settlement cycle starting March 28, making India only the second country, following China, to adopt such a system. This move comes amidst growing competition from the cryptocurrency sector, with SEBI Chairperson Madhabi Puri Buch emphasizing the need for instant settlement and tokenization to remain competitive.Photo by Big G Media on UnsplashEvolving market dynamicsBuch has unveiled plans aimed at enhancing the efficiency of India's capital markets through faster settlement processes. During a recent press conference, she highlighted the significance of adapting to evolving market dynamics. Buch stated:“If our well-regulated market cannot compete with the crypto world and cannot say we also offer you tokenization and instantaneous settlement over the medium term, I won’t even say long term, you should expect investors to move." The SEBI chairperson articulated that we live in a time where the current generation demands instant delivery of services. It’s with that in mind Buch believes that crypto is a threat to traditional financial markets. She stated:"Everybody wants instant everything. Right? So why should anyone believe that tomorrow if an alternative is available with instant settlement tokenization and they say the regulated market doesn’t offer it, you should expect people to move.” With a focus on meeting investor expectations for instant transactions, SEBI aims to bridge the gap between traditional capital markets and the rapidly evolving crypto landscape. Faster settlement cyclesIndia has been at the forefront of adopting faster settlement cycles, having transitioned to a one-day settlement (T+1) model between 2021 and January 2023. The optional same-day settlement, scheduled to commence later this month, represents another step towards enhancing market efficiency. However, Buch cautioned that further delays in embracing instant settlement could lead to a significant portion of the market shifting towards cryptocurrencies. The move towards faster settlement has been met with enthusiasm from some market participants. Indian business news publication Mint reported the comments of Shauryam Gupta, CEO of web trading platform Rupeezy, on the subject. Gupta stated: “The shift to instantaneous settlement is a substantial milestone, streamlining operations and cutting down on risk. The potential advantages of reducing counterparty risk and boosting liquidity signal positive growth for the sector.” However, others, particularly brokers, have expressed reservations. Brokers, who hold client funds and earn interest on balances, stand to see their interest earnings decrease with shorter settlement times. Nonetheless, SEBI remains steadfast in its commitment to modernizing India's capital markets to remain globally competitive. The regulatory landscape surrounding cryptocurrencies in India has been predominantly shaped by the nation's finance ministry and the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). While the RBI has been vocal in its opposition to cryptocurrencies, advocating for central bank digital currencies instead, SEBI's recent initiatives underscore its willingness to adapt to changing market dynamics. SEBI's efforts reflect a broader trend of regulatory bodies worldwide seeking to strike a balance between innovation and investor protection in an increasingly digital financial landscape.
