Data Labs leverages blockchain technology for data-based travel itinerary app

Web3 & Enterprise·November 28, 2023, 9:32 AM

Founded in 2021, Data Labs is changing the landscape of travel by leveraging blockchain and NFT technology to offer a wallet service called “MyInfo Market,” where users can store and control their own data, according to an article published by Korean news outlet Data News.

In particular, MyInfo Market can be used in tandem with the company’s travel app Yeohaengdaelo, which utilizes users’ travel-related data to recommend travel destinations and organize and share itineraries. Users can directly manage their personal preference information on MyInfo Market and selectively submit the information necessary to receive rewards. “It’s not just a travel itinerary app, it’s also a way for individuals to earn money using their own data,” said Kim Jong-hyun, CEO of Data Labs.

Seamless travel experience

Yeohaengdaelo integrates Naver Blog, Instagram and KakaoTalk services into one app, aimed at relieving the stress that comes with travel preparation, Kim explained. It utilizes data such as the region a user is traveling to, their travel companions and information on facilities, as well as their travel preferences and patterns. The app also provides real-life services such as discounts at designated restaurants near the travel site.

Building trust and value

The company explained that it intends to maintain a cyclical data ecosystem where users can willingly provide their data to get travel recommendations and receive suitable compensation for that information in return. Because the ecosystem is blockchain-based, it provides a safe method of personal information management.

Since the launch of Yeohaengdaelo in July, Data Labs has been developing a business model that can secure a solid user base and revenue for affiliated businesses. It expects to reach 55,000 members next year and 2.14 million members by 2028. The company also expects to use the business model as a basis for generating KRW 500 million (approximately $386,000) in revenue next year by linking marketing channels, issuing discount coupons for kids’ amenities and providing data royalties.

In the future, Data Labs plans to expand Yeohaengdaelo to include not only travel preparation services but also information on various discounts that users can receive based on the location they are in. Efforts like this will be necessary to provide unique user experiences, the company said.

Data Labs is also currently receiving support through Y&Archer’s tourism acceleration program. Y&Archer is a Korean investment and acceleration firm known for its AC Program, which discovers, accelerates and supports startups through various projects.

“In the past, companies profited from personal data, but Yeohaengdaelo allows individuals to monetize their data. Our goal is to create a world where individuals can regain the rights (to their own data) and be at the center of Web3 content,” Kim said.

This massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) gained substantial traction since its launch in April. Drawing from this success, the game publisher has strategic plans to take Night Crows a step further by developing a blockchain version, with intentions to present it to global gamers within the current year.More games under developmentExpanding beyond Night Crows, Wemade is actively working on the development of other captivating gaming titles. Audius Achieves Token Listing On India’s CoinSwitch

Audius Achieves Token Listing On India’s CoinSwitchAudius, a decentralized music streaming platform which is attempting to cut intermediaries out of the music business, took a major leap forward in the Asian market on Wednesday, scoring a listing of its native $AUDIO token on Indian crypto exchange, CoinSwitch.Photo by Studio Art Smile on PexelsIn announcing the token going live on the platform CoinSwitch encouraged platform users to “trade $AUDIO today and support independent artists worldwide.” Founded in the United States in 2018 by Stanford University graduates Forrest Browning and Roneil Rumberg, the project launched its $AUDIO token in 2020.The token commenced trading on top tier global crypto exchanges shortly afterwards. In terms of listings on Asian exchanges, $AUDIO can be traded on DigitFinex Global, Bitrue and BingX in Singapore, HitBTC and Hotbit in Hong Kong and Tokocrypto and INDODAX in Indonesia. While it is already listed on WazirX, India’s largest crypto exchange by trading volume, the project will welcome another Indian listing via CoinSwitch given a market that ranks sixth in the world in terms of crypto ownership, with a backdrop of a population of 1.4 billion.Web3 with a Web2 UXAudius has taken a different approach than most other crypto projects. From the outset, its founders have focused on giving the platform the look and feel of a Web2 streaming service. Audius decided to embed its non-custodial wallet Hedgehog into the user login process. The strategy has been to make the UX as customer friendly and intuitive as possible in order to aid user on-boarding. There have been trade-offs in taking this approach and with that, the project advises users to keep only a small amount of the $AUDIO token within the Hedgehog wallet. When Hedgehog was launched in 2019, a project blog post proclaimed that “decentralization doesn’t have to come at the expense of user experience.”TikTok integrationEarlier this year, the Web3 streaming service integrated TikTok, allowing platform users to create accounts simply by linking their TikTok profiles. Additionally, the integration meant that users could share their Audius songs in the TikTok videos they produced. In late January, the $AUDIO token jumped 70% in a matter of hours once it became known that Coinbase planned to list the token on January 26. While a CoinSwitch listing is a significant milestone for the project in the Indian market, naturally it doesn’t compare with the volume that a global exchange listing on Coinbase can bring. At the time of publication, the $AUDIO token was trading at $0.29.For its part, CoinSwitch has experienced many of the ups and downs that this nascent industry could possibly deliver. In August 2022, five properties associated with the crypto exchange were searched by India’s Enforcement Directorate on the grounds of suspected contravention of India’s Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA).Founded in 2017 by Ashish Singhal, Govind Soni and Vimal Sagar Tiwari, the firm has attracted investment and backing from Andreessen Horowitz, Coinbase Ventures, Tiger Global Management and Paradigm.

Shinhan Bank and SCB TechX Succeed in Stablecoin Remittance Pilot

Shinhan Bank and SCB TechX Succeed in Stablecoin Remittance PilotSouth Korean banking institution Shinhan Bank, Thai Siam Commercial Bank’s tech arm SCB TechX, and a Taiwanese financial institution recently announced the successful completion of a proof-of-concept (PoC) pilot of stablecoin remittances. The PoC was built on the hashgraph consensus-based public ledger, Hedera. Hashgraph consensus is a technology that provides an alternative to the more commonly used blockchain consensus mechanisms.Photo by Lea L on UnsplashThree currenciesThe pilot test was conducted to assess the feasibility and functionality of a system involving real-time settlement and real-time foreign exchange (FX) rate integration. The test was successful in implementing these capabilities for three currencies: the Thai Baht (THB), the New Taiwan dollar (NTD), and the South Korean won (KRW). Since the PoC is compatible with the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM), EVM-based stablecoins should be able to join the PoC framework without significant modifications.More efficient and affordableIn November 2021, Shinhan Bank developed this PoC on the Hedera network in collaboration with an international bank outside Korea, employing stablecoins for cross-border remittances. The success of the subsequent pilot test this year represents a major achievement in the pursuit of more efficient and affordable cross-border payments, especially given that the financial industry has been increasingly recognizing the transformative possibilities of blockchain and distributed ledger technology. These banks expect that this stablecoin solution will allow individuals and organizations to conduct transactions in locally denominated stablecoins, benefiting from remarkably low fees.Kim Byung-hee, Chief of the Blockchain Division at Shinhan Bank, said, “The successful completion of this second PoC marks an important step forward in our efforts to make cross-border payments faster, cheaper, and more accessible to people around the world.”SCB TechX’s CEO Trirat Suwanprateeb echoed this sentiment, stating that this endeavor can help “increase financial inclusion and improve access to financial services for individuals and businesses in underserved communities.”
