Leveraging Web3

Diving into uncharted waters in the realm of esports, this game leverages Web3 technology to empower players with the ability to construct, possess, and engage in battles with their very own distinctive Mech fighters.

“Wreck League” challenges the traditional boundaries of gaming by permitting enthusiasts to craft their fighters, engage in fierce competitions, and secure on-chain rewards. Set to debut its maiden season, the game will draw inspiration from the Web3 stalwart, Yuga Labs.

The game boasts a dual-pronged design, encompassing both Web2 and Web3 versions. In a savvy maneuver to capture a wide-ranging audience, nWay has devised a marketing strategy that seamlessly integrates effective user acquisition techniques from their previous ventures while circumventing complex blockchain terminology.

Clarifying the ingenious concept behind the game, Taehoon Kim, the CEO of nWay, explained: “Wreck League stands as a fusion of Web3 and Web2 concepts. Our mission revolves around unifying communities and players, tapping into the creative wellspring of the Web3 community to consistently elevate the game’s content.”

Designed for player retention

Within the player community, creators, owners, and participants converge to partake in league events. The crux of the game revolves around the assembly of high-performance Mechs, crafted from a collection of 10 distinct Mech Parts NFTs.

Player retention is a cornerstone of its design, driven by an engaging trajectory of in-game progression through upgradable mech parts, enhancing gameplay dynamics, and embedding the notion of asset ownership. The more players invest in refining their assets and advancing through levels, the stronger their bond with the game becomes. Active participation in events and tournaments further reinforces player allegiance.

Yat Siu, the Co-Founder and Executive Chairman of Animoca Brands, is optimistic regarding the transformative potential of “Wreck League” within the esports sector. Siu envisions the game, where digital asset ownership is the norm, as a harbinger of a monumental shift in competitive gaming dynamics.

Expanding market reach

For Yuga’s part, the NFT and metaverse company is using gaming, through this particular partnership, as a mechanism to broaden the reach of its well-established NFT brand. That said, it has also made its own individual efforts in that regard recently. The Web3 studio, best known for having created the Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) NFT collection, has released two games, Dookey Dash and Forge, independently.

nWay and Animoca Brands get to benefit from access to Yuga’s well-known NFT collections through the partnership. The companies confirmed that as part of the gaming experience, gamers will be able to collect and take ownership of in-game digital assets in the form of NFTs.

Animoca acquired nWay in December 2019 for $7.69 million. The games developer and publisher creates and distributes triple A games on console, PC, and mobile platforms. At the time of the acquisition Animoca Brands outlined that it foresaw nWay innovating in the area of blockchain-based games, with the intention of both companies working together relative to that endeavor.

Further JPEX Controversy Due to DAO Plan

Further JPEX Controversy Due to DAO PlanDubai-headquartered crypto exchange JPEX, which has recently found itself at the center of controversy in Hong Kong, has moved forward with a plan to transition the platform into a decentralized autonomous organization (DAO).Photo by Clint Adair on UnsplashDisputed voting outcomeThe firm’s management envisages converting user assets into dividend shares, with an incentive to lock them up for two years. While the exchange claims that the majority of its users voted in favor of the plan, some users are alleging that their assets have been converted without their knowledge or consent. The company announced the outcome of its DAO Shareholder Dividend Scheme referendum on its website on Wednesday. According to JPEX, voting on the program concluded on September 28. The company alleges that 68% of users voted to support the proposed scheme.Asset conversionUnder this plan, users can convert their currently frozen assets into DAO Stakeholder dividends at a 1:1 ratio. JPEX also offers a repurchase option at 30% of the conversion price after one year and a 100% repurchase option after two years. In a prior announcement, JPEX stated that users who agreed to the scheme would receive dividends from the exchange through a new token listing, trading fees, and a distribution of JPEX Coin (JPC), the platform’s native token, in proportion to their shareholder dividends. The scheme seems to encourage users to keep their funds on the exchange, which has been grappling with liquidity issues. Previously, the exchange had taken to putting in place unreasonably high withdrawal fees to discourage users from attempting to withdraw their funds from the platform.Ongoing falloutThere has been ongoing fallout from the exchange businesses' difficulties over recent weeks. At first, a number of influencers who had promoted the exchange were arrested. Later, Hong Kong regulators suggested they were giving further scrutiny to crypto trading regulations in light of the scandal.Further arrests were made in connection with the exchange’s activities. Regulators have suggested that they would create a public listing of platforms that are actually regulated within the Chinese autonomous territory and the licensing status of those businesses. On Thursday the South China Morning Post (SCMP) reported that a further six people have been arrested in relation to the scandal, including the company’s CEO.In another report on Wednesday the SCMP had cited one platform user who maintained that her assets had already been converted to JPC tokens without her consent or prior knowledge. She and other users discovered that they could no longer withdraw their assets following JPEX’s announcement to proceed with the plan.“All of my [Tether] USDT and other cryptocurrencies are gone, all transferred to JPC,” she lamented, noting that her assets had been converted to JPC, a token with low liquidity and limited use cases. She expressed concern about the unknown price of JPC and the inability to withdraw, suggesting their assets had become worthless. On Wednesday, Hong Kong’s police and securities regulator jointly launched a crypto-focused task force aimed at combating illicit activities by cryptocurrency exchanges in the region.

Aave v3 Launches on Metis Scaling Network

Aave v3 Launches on Metis Scaling NetworkMetisDAO confirmed on Tuesday that leading decentralized liquidity protocol Aave has been deployed on the layer 2 Ethereum-centric scaling platform.Photo by Joshua Sortino on UnsplashGiven the distributed nature of the teams behind decentralized networks and projects, it can be difficult at times to determine where project teams are based, albeit in the case of MetisDAO, according to LinkedIn, its primary location is Singapore despite having a Canadian Co-Founder and CEO.Aave’s move to ZK networksThe move comes following a vote taken by Aave’s user community, who voted in favor last month of a proposal to deploy the liquidity protocol on zero knowledge-based networks. In a social media post, the Metis team referred to the decentralized lending market going live on the network as “a new era of Decentralized Finance.”The development is significant for Metis, given that Aave is the third largest project in crypto based on the total value locked (TVL) metric. Within DeFi lending, it’s the biggest project in the sector, holding a TVL of $5.4 billion. One of the keys of Aave’s dominance is its multi-chain strategy. Metis marks the eighth network upon which it has been deployed. The others include Ethereum, Polygon, Arbitrum, Optimism, Fantom, Harmony and Avalanche.Metis technical roadmapWhile there’s a lot of uncertainty as to how various crypto projects will pan out over the longer run, most agree that Ethereum is here to stay. Metis stands a good chance of contributing to that ecosystem over the long term as layer two scaling networks are likely to be part and parcel of the Ethereum environment for some time to come.Last month, the project set out a technical roadmap, detailing what the project has in store, while claiming that in general, 2023 would be a great year for Ethereum. Metis is a layer two network based on Optimistic Rollup architecture. It has grown into the third largest scaling network relative to Ethereum. The project plans to roll out Bedrock, a technical upgrade that will enable improved network security. Furthermore, it plans on bringing about consensus and execution separation. Also in its sights are faster deposit times, which the project claims, will enable better UX.Many DeFi networks are under scrutiny in terms of the centralized elements that they incorporate. Metis plans to make improvements in this regard, with the intention of decentralizing the sequencer pool. The project claims that “Metis Andromeda will be decentralized to the core.”Hybrid rollupsDemonstrating further ambition, Metis is aspiring to bring about hybrid rollups, combining the features of optimistic rollup architecture with zero-knowledge proofs. In a tweet, Head of Marketing and MetisDAO Co-Founder Kevin Li said that “by combining the best traits from both schemes, hybrid rollups will offer the unmatched scalability and EVM-equivalence of optimistic rollups, together with the censorship resistance and fast finality enabled by zero-knowledge proofs. The best of both worlds.”MetisDAO believes it adds value for users of its network through Aave’s offering, enabling them to borrow assets with less collateral via Aave’s High-Efficiency mode. Furthermore, the deployment makes for improved risk management through supply and borrow caps, and siloed borrowing, reducing the risk in the event of market contagion.
