Positioning Tezos as preferred gaming blockchain

News of the partnership was publicized recently within "The Baking Sheet," a bulletin published by an independent not-for-profit entity, Tezos Commons. The primary focus of this partnership is to offer marketing solutions and publishing partnership support. EMERGE Group, known for its expertise and influential network, including partnerships with Moonton, Singtel and Shopback, aims to position Tezos as the preferred blockchain platform for the gaming community. Leveraging advertising inventories and critical IPs, EMERGE Group intends to facilitate the seamless onboarding of game studios onto the Tezos blockchain.

Tezos, renowned for its open-source blockchain emphasizing upgradability, participation and smart contract safety, joins forces with EMERGE Group, which has previously established strategic alliances with industry leaders like Nvir World and Infinite Loop Media. This partnership is seeking to make an impact within the gaming industry, harnessing the potential of blockchain technology.

Jason Lim, responsible for business development (gaming) at TZ APAC, commented on the partnership:

“With this collaboration, TZ APAC can now rely on a partner that shares the same goal — to empower the gaming community with the relevant tools, resources, and network to succeed. Builders, gamers, and ecosystem partners can stand to benefit from the marriage of full-suite support provided by TZ APAC and the marketing prowess of EMERGE Group.”

EMERGE Group co-founder and CEO Roy Kek was similarly enthused, stating that the partnership reflected the firm’s expertise in the Web3 gaming space.

Bridging Web2 to Web3

The collaborative effort is designed to create a bridge between Web2 and Web3 technologies, enhancing the overall gaming experience. By fostering a supportive environment for game developers and capitalizing on Tezos' blockchain capabilities, the partnership aims to deliver a frictionless onboarding experience.

The collaboration between EMERGE Group and TZ APAC signifies a proactive move towards the integration of gaming into the Web3 ecosystem on Tezos. In the past, gaming giant Ubisoft has leaned on Tezos in providing in-game items for some of its gaming titles. The project has partnered with Google Cloud in an effort to enable Google Cloud customers to build Web3 applications on the blockchain.

It’s still early days for Web3 gaming and with that, this partnership is seeking to advance gaming development on Tezos.

Indonesia Sees Further Crypto Investor Growth

Indonesia Sees Further Crypto Investor GrowthRecent data released by the Commodity Futures Trading Supervisory Agency (Bappebti) underscores the robust growth of the crypto investment landscape in Indonesia.Photo by Nick Agus Arya on Unsplash10.1% year-on-year increaseAccording to reports published in recent days in local media, as of September 2023, the country boasts 17.91 million crypto investors, marking a noteworthy 0.67% uptick compared to the previous month of August, which registered 17.79 million individuals.Over the span of a year, from September 2022 to September 2023, the Southeast Asian nation witnessed an influx of approximately 1.64 million new crypto investors, showcasing a remarkable 10.1% increase from the 16.27 million reported in September 2022.Emerging from a slowdownWhile this growth signals a positive trend, a noteworthy observation pertains to the deceleration in crypto investor growth from October 2022 to August 2023. The data reveals that during this period, the increase in the number of crypto investors in Indonesia never exceeded 1%. This slowdown can be attributed to the global crypto market’s trend characterized by uncertainty and a downward trajectory.Tirta Karma Senjaya, Head of the Bappebti Commodity Futures Trading Development and Development Bureau, comments on this phenomenon, stating, “Growth in the number of crypto investors in Indonesia continues to increase, but investors are still looking for the right time to buy crypto.”Furthermore, Bappebti highlights a reduction in the value of crypto transactions in Indonesia for September 2023, amounting to IDR 7.96 trillion ($502 million). This marks a decrease of 25.2% when compared to the preceding month, which recorded a total of IDR 10.64 trillion. In contrast to the previous year, this decline reflects a substantial 54.7% contraction from the September 2022 figure of IDR 17.57 trillion.Yudhono Rawis, CEO of Tokocrypto, an Indonesian crypto exchange platform, suggests that global conditions, including economic and regulatory uncertainties, have significantly impacted the crypto market’s evolution, both within Indonesia and worldwide. Despite the recent slowdown in growth, Indonesia’s crypto market continues to exhibit considerable potential.Bitcoin resurgenceYudhono remains optimistic, anticipating that the growth and trading volumes of crypto assets in October will surpass previous records. This optimism stems from the surge in Bitcoin prices, which soared in excess of $35,000 (approximately IDR 556.5 million) towards the end of October. This milestone marks Bitcoin’s highest point in nearly 18 months and signifies a mounting interest in the crypto market on a global scale. In a statement to Voice of Indonesia, Yudhono stated:“We are confident that the growth of investors and transactions will continue to increase. The increase in Bitcoin prices and increasingly strong interest in the crypto market in general are indications that these digital assets are increasingly accepted by society. We hope that this trend will continue and bring benefits to the entire ecosystem crypto.”The crypto investment sector in Indonesia continues to experience steady growth, albeit amid global market fluctuations. With Bitcoin’s resurgence and a growing appetite for digital assets, the outlook for Indonesia’s crypto market is positive.

Filipino legislator proposes bill to establish Bitcoin reserve

A legislator in the Philippines has put forward a bill that, if passed and enacted, would see the Southeast Asian country establish a Bitcoin reserve consisting of 10,000 BTC. The proposed bill was filed with the House of Representatives as House Bill 421. Its proposer is Congressman Miguel Luis Villafuerte, a representative of Camarines Sur’s 5th district since 2022. Villafuerte also served as governor of the same province on two occasions, gaining recognition for becoming the youngest individual to assume the governorship in the Philippines.Photo by Michael Förtsch on UnsplashDrawing on developments overseasPrefacing the bill with an explanatory note, Villafuerte draws on developments related to Bitcoin in the United States. He drew attention to U.S. Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell having referred to Bitcoin as “digital gold,” while pointing to a bill in the U.S. proposed by Wyoming Senator Cynthia Lummis to create a strategic Bitcoin reserve in the U.S., with the support of U.S. President Donald Trump. The bill itself, if passed and enacted, would provide a mandate to Banko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP), the country’s central bank, to acquire 2,000 BTC on an annual basis over a period of five years. According to Villafuerte’s proposal, that would result in the Philippines amassing a reserve of 10,000 BTC. 20-year minimum holding periodFollowing the achievement of this accumulation, the bill sets out that the leading digital asset would be locked in trust for a period of 20 years for the benefit of the country. A provision is included to establish a procedure that would enable the purchase schedule to be adjusted if a need arose to do so due to prevailing market conditions. Upon completion of the 20-year holding period, the proposed legislation calls on the central bank to present a report to Congress with recommendations as to whether Bitcoin should continue to be held or if some of the holdings should be sold off on a gradual basis. Following the expiration of that initial 20-year period, the governor of the central bank cannot recommend the selloff of more than 10% of the holding over any two-year period. Proof of reservesIn terms of sovereign nations, an early mover with regard to Bitcoin has been El Salvador. It became the first nation to establish Bitcoin as legal tender, while also establishing a Bitcoin reserve. However, the Central American nation has been criticized with regard to a lack of transparency surrounding that reserve. In the case of Villafuerte’s bill, the proposed legislation includes a requirement for the central bank governor to establish a system of quarterly proof of reserve attestations. It calls for attestations to be performed by an independent third-party auditor with expertise in auditing digital assets. The proposal comes as a number of nations are understood to be exploring the establishment of a strategic Bitcoin reserve. In April, a parliamentarian in Sweden proposed adding Bitcoin to the Nordic nation’s foreign exchange reserves. The Swedish parliament is set to debate the notion of a Bitcoin reserve next month. Meanwhile, Switzerland’s central bank has reportedly gained exposure to Bitcoin through a $253 million shareholding in Bitcoin treasury firm Strategy.
