Bitcoin is showing technical signals on its weekly chart that point to a bullish inflection point, Real Vision crypto market analyst Jamie Coutts said on X. Coutts said a bullish divergence had emerged in the weekly relative strength index, or RSI, and a trend-reversal indicator had shifted from neutral, marked by a yellow zone, to bullish, marked by a green zone. In the six previous instances when this signal appeared, five were followed by a continued uptrend without a correction or retest, Coutts said. Coutts added, however, that global liquidity conditions remain unfavorable despite dollar weakness, and said the U.S. Treasury’s mentioned bond buybacks and whether the Federal Reserve provides policy support would need to follow.

A whale address that had held the largest long position on Hyperliquid, the world’s largest decentralized perpetual futures exchange, locked in $45.3 million in gains after partially unwinding the position overnight, according to on-chain analyst EmberCN. EmberCN said the whale’s total long exposure had fallen to $143 million from $537 million. Overnight, the address fully closed a 120,000 ETH position, realizing $32.77 million in profit, and took profit on 1,200 BTC from a 3,000 BTC long position, adding another $12.53 million in gains. The whale now holds only a 1,800 BTC long position, with unrealized profit standing at $21.08 million. EmberCN added the whale had endured unrealized losses of as much as $120 million over the past four months before beginning to unwind the trade at a substantial profit.

A hacker who stole about $8.5 million in crypto from DeFi protocol Term Labs over the weekend by exploiting a governance vulnerability has deposited 300 ETH, worth about $741,000, into crypto mixing protocol Tornado Cash, according to blockchain security firm PeckShield. The deposits were made in three separate 100 ETH transactions, a move that likely formed part of an effort to make the stolen funds harder to trace.

Bitcoin is likely to enter a full parabolic rally soon, making this the right moment to hold the asset, BitMEX co-founder Arthur Hayes said during an appearance on the Altcoin Daily YouTube channel. Reproducing his verbatim English remarks, Hayes said Bitcoin would quickly reach "hundreds of thousands of dollars" and added that anyone worried about the Federal Reserve’s bond-yield control should own Bitcoin now. Hayes also said the current situation looks like it is heading toward the 2008 financial crisis.

A U.S. federal court has allowed part of an investor class action against Coinbase (COIN) and senior executives to proceed, according to NewsBTC. The U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York on Aug. 20 allowed claims to be heard over allegations that Coinbase misled investors by downplaying and concealing potential bankruptcy risks and the possibility of a U.S. SEC investigation. The ruling does not mean Coinbase committed wrongdoing, but it is expected to restart the previously filed class action process. Investors filed the class action against Coinbase in August 2022, alleging the company concealed risks to customer assets in the event of bankruptcy and downplayed SEC regulatory and litigation risks.

Former U.S. military member Gannon Ken Van Dyke is pushing back against an attempt by the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission to weigh in on his criminal trial over allegations he used confidential information to make more than $400,000 in illicit gains on Polymarket, Cointelegraph reported. Van Dyke was criminally and civilly charged in April over allegations he speculated on Polymarket event contracts using nonpublic military intelligence learned while participating in an operation to remove former Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro. With the civil case paused pending the outcome of the criminal trial, the CFTC has asked to file an amicus brief with the criminal court. The agency aims to reinforce its view that Polymarket event contracts qualify as swaps under its jurisdiction and that the use of nonpublic information in prediction markets falls under fraud and insider-trading rules in the Commodity Exchange Act. Van Dyke's legal team strongly opposed the move in a filing submitted to the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York on Aug. 24.

As of June 30, FSOL was already staking 99.64% of its holdings, while FETH plans to begin staking soon after a rule change on Aug. 21. The filings also outlined withdrawal-delay risks, noting that unstaking SOL takes about two days, while ETH unstaking times vary with validator queues, which could delay large ETF redemption requests during periods of network congestion.

Bitcoin payments have nearly disappeared in El Zonte, also known as Bitcoin Beach, one of El Salvador’s best-known Bitcoin hubs in the first country to adopt Bitcoin as legal tender, Bitcoin.com reported. Bitcoin Core developer Jon Atack said that when Jon Atack tried to pay with Bitcoin at a restaurant in El Zonte, a staff member replied in English, "this month’s first Bitcoin payment." Local merchants said most customers now use credit cards or cash, unlike in the past, and that Bitcoin usage has fallen so much that some staff have even forgotten how to use Bitcoin apps. Experts said the decline reflects a structural economic issue in which users, expecting Bitcoin prices to rise, are becoming more inclined to hold it as an asset under a stronger HODL mentality rather than spend it, weakening its function as a circulating currency.

Kylie Jenner’s official X account was hacked and used to promote a Solana memecoin before the post was quickly deleted, Crypto Briefing reported. The attacker posted a Pump.fun link and a Solana token contract address. Bitcoin has risen about 27% over the past month, fueling expectations for higher price targets, but the next pullback will be the real test, CoinDesk reported. Chris Sullivan, co-founder of crypto hedge fund Hyperion Decimus, said Bitcoin has become overbought after the recent rally and likely needs a correction to test the strength of the trend. Sullivan added that if the decline deepens, the $67,000-$70,000 range could act as support. Samir Kerbage, CIO of crypto asset manager Hashdex, said the $80,000-$90,000 range tends to have very little trading volume. Kerbage said a sideways move between $75,000 and $83,000 could help the market build a base, while a steady climb above $83,000 could open the way for a push toward $100,000.

Zcash rose about 65% last week, but crypto analyst Crypto with Haris, who has 650,000 followers, warned ZEC is not Bitcoin and may have a fair value below $500. Crypto with Haris said the view may be unpopular, but ZEC’s real value could be under $500. The analyst pointed to a vulnerability discovered a few months ago that may have allowed counterfeit ZEC to be created. After an emergency upgrade, ZEC fell from $624 to $309 in 48 hours, the analyst said. The analyst added ZEC is now overheated, with its relative strength index above 85, its price well above the daily moving average, and a breakout above the upper Bollinger Band. Crypto with Haris also said a significant share of recent trading volume came from futures rather than spot trading, and cautioned against influencer claims that ZEC could rise to $2,000 or become a second Bitcoin.

Most financial institutions show a gap between crypto-related budgeting and actual deployment, according to a survey by crypto infrastructure firm Fireblocks. The survey of 638 financial institution executives found 88% to 89% had allocated budget to crypto infrastructure this year or planned to do so. Just 11% said they had deferred such spending to next year. However, only around one-sixth of institutions had actually built and operated the infrastructure, while most remained in the planning, pilot, or proof-of-concept stage. The media outlet said this shows the industry recognizes the importance of cryptocurrency but is still weighing how to put it to practical use.

Weekly cryptocurrency trading volume doubled in five days last week to reach $37 billion, according to The Block Data. The media outlet said the figure still remained well below the 12-month high of $105 billion recorded just after the crypto selloff began on Oct. 10 last year. On a monthly basis, August trading volume so far stands at $490 billion, down from $670 billion in July. The outlet noted, "주목할 점은 현물 ETF의 등장으로 이번 사이클은 과거처럼 암호화폐에 대한 투자 수요가 전부 중앙거래소(CEX)로 몰리지 않았다는 것이다." It added, "그러나 대다수의 알트코인 수요는 계속해 CEX로 유입될 가능성이 높다."
