Sui said via its official X account on Oct. 8 that Circle’s Cross-Chain Transfer Protocol V2 has gone live on the Sui mainnet, enabling users to transfer native USDC between Sui and 29 blockchains. Sui explained that under CCTP V2, USDC is burned on the originating chain and newly minted on the destination chain. The blockchain said developers can build payment and treasury-related services on Sui without separately designing bridge-based infrastructure, while USDC received on Sui can be used immediately within the same inbound transaction. That means deposits, swaps, and payments can be handled in a single transaction. Note: We are participating as an official media partner for Sui Basecamp 2026.

Crypto analyst Crypto Dan said on X the cryptocurrency market appears to be nearing the final stage of a transition into an upcycle. Crypto Dan said that at the bottom of every past downturn cycle, loss and profit ratios relative to supply converged, then widened again as the market shifted into an upcycle. A similar pattern is now being observed, according to the analyst. Crypto Dan added that in past cycle bottoms, Bitcoin traded below its realized price, while this time the correction has been relatively shallow. Even so, the broader picture suggests the market is now in the process of turning into an upcycle, Crypto Dan said.

Greece has drafted a bill to impose a 10% tax on cryptocurrency income and has launched a public consultation process, Reuters reported. Under the draft, annual capital gains from crypto transfers of up to 500 euros ($560) would be exempt from taxation. The bill is scheduled to be submitted to parliament in November. Greek authorities said most investors use overseas platforms, making it difficult to accurately estimate the size of the domestic crypto market. As a result, projected tax revenue from the proposed regime has not yet been calculated.

The UK tax authority, HMRC, is seeking to expand its power to request information from cryptocurrency service providers, raising concerns over the privacy and personal safety of Bitcoin holders, Forbes reported. According to Forbes, the proposed changes would extend financial institution information notice rules to crypto service providers and update access powers related to computer records and software information. A key concern is that if users’ real names, home addresses and taxpayer identification numbers are linked to BTC wallet addresses, public blockchain data could be used to track past transactions and asset movements over long periods. Forbes said a leak of such information could increase the risk of physical crime targeting large holders. Public consultation on the proposal ended on Sept. 7, local time, and the UK government has not yet decided whether to adopt it.

Franklin Templeton CEO Jenny Johnson said at Token2049 in Singapore that some rival tokenized funds remain limited to putting traditional financial products into digital form, falling short of fully using blockchain’s advantages. Johnson said BENJI, the company’s tokenized fund, manages records of fund ownership directly on a public blockchain, with the blockchain itself serving as the official book of record. That allows returns to be calculated by the second and cuts transaction costs to $1.13 from about $150, Johnson said.

Tokenization has the potential to lower transaction costs and improve efficiency in financial markets, but its actual growth will depend on regulatory clarity, sufficient liquidity and proper safeguards, the International Monetary Fund said. In Chapter 3 of its October Global Financial Stability Report, the IMF said the future of tokenization depends less on the technology itself than on policies that support adequate market liquidity, trust and safeguards. Its analysis showed more than half of stock-token trades took place outside regular equity market hours, while around 80% were executed in sizes of less than one share, indicating demand for 24-hour trading and fractional investing. At the same time, the IMF said the tokenized market still lacks liquidity and is more volatile than traditional markets. It added that trading is fragmented across multiple platforms, creating price gaps, and warned that if the market grows further, fire sales and liquidity stress could spread across the broader financial system.

Bitcoin fell below $84,000 in a short period, and increased high-leverage short positions, spot ETF outflows, long liquidations and transfers of BTC held by the U.S. government likely added to the downward pressure, according to ABM Crypto. Over the same period, addresses tied to the U.S. government moved 834 BTC, worth $71.56 million, and 40,285 BNB, worth $31.63 million. The BTC was deposited into Coinbase Prime, ABM Crypto said. South Korea’s National Assembly Research Service said limits on the voting rights of major shareholders in cryptocurrency exchanges could affect constitutional property rights and corporate freedom, and should be assessed by weighing the public interest gained through regulation against the private interests being restricted. The body made the comment in materials on voting-right restrictions for major shareholders of crypto exchanges sent to Democratic Party lawmaker Park Min-kyu, according to Newsis. It also pointed to major jurisdictions including the EU and Singapore, noting they rely on fitness reviews for major shareholders and ex post supervision rather than uniform equity caps.

Yuval Rooz, CEO of Digital Asset, the developer of Canton (CC), argued institutional blockchain adoption should expand to a point where it would be difficult to reverse even if the U.S. regulatory stance shifts after the 2028 presidential election, Cointelegraph reported. Speaking at Token2049 in Singapore, Rooz said widespread service adoption, as seen with Uber and Airbnb, makes government regulation harder. Separately, Binance co-CEO Richard Teng said he still hopes the Clarity Act will pass after it was stalled in a Senate procedural vote in September, adding the bill could help prevent regulatory backtracking and encourage institutional entry into the market. Franklin Templeton CEO Jenny Johnson, however, said the market should not rely solely on the bill, noting the U.S. SEC and CFTC are already reducing regulatory uncertainty.
