Bitcoin may move ahead of a broader downturn in risk assets after having led their rise, Bloomberg Intelligence Senior Commodity Strategist Mike McGlone said.
McGlone said Bitcoin, which was launched during the 2009 global financial crisis, had long led gains in risk assets and could now become a leading indicator for declines. He added that some central banks had already started raising interest rates as U.S. stocks entered what he described as a relatively overheated risk zone. With the U.S. midterm elections approaching and seasonal volatility set to increase, McGlone said the crypto market, including Bitcoin, was moving with strong correlation to equities like "stock puppets" and warranted close attention to a typical market reversion scenario.

Hunter Biden, the son of former U.S. President Joe Biden, released a video explanation after the price of the LAPTOP memecoin tied to his “laptop scandal” plunged 98% within minutes of launch. Biden said the failure of LAPTOP was largely due to a market maker providing only $5,000 in initial liquidity, which pushed the token price as high as $316 before it was bound to fall sharply. Biden added the project had been in preparation for six months, the team’s allocation was locked up and could not be sold, Biden personally did not earn even $1, and Biden would continue to fully support the project. According to CoinMarketCap, LAPTOP was recently trading at $0.4283, down 48.54% over the past 24 hours.

Choi In-soo, a division head at Shinhan Securities, said at a seminar in Seoul on Sept. 11 that tokenization will hinge less on what gets issued than on who has a structure capable of issuing repeatedly and sustainably.
According to Edaily, Shinhan Financial Group is exploring new products and business opportunities in line with South Korean financial authorities’ step-by-step roadmap for security token offerings, and views tokenization as a step toward broader business expansion. Shinhan Asset Management is pursuing a "K-BUIDL" project benchmarked against BlackRock’s BUIDL tokenized fund to enable the use of won-denominated assets on-chain. Choi said the firm is focusing on tokenization for three reasons: extended trading hours, changes in account structures, and more efficient settlement processing.

An access-control vulnerability was found in a specific contract tied to Ethereum restaking protocol Ether.fi, and about 15.45 ETH, worth roughly $38,000, was stolen, blockchain security firm SlowMist said. SlowMist said the attacker exploited a flaw in the AtomicQueue contract to create a manipulated request and induce the victim address to be recognized as a solver. AtomicQueue then abused the victim’s existing ERC-20 token approval to drain the funds. ETHFI was trading at $0.6611, up 6.21%, according to CoinMarketCap.

Bitcoin accounted for more than 42% of cryptocurrencies bought by repeat users on European crypto trading platform Paybis, exceeding the combined share of Ethereum and stablecoins, according to crypto media outlet Finbold, citing data obtained from Paybis.
An analysis of Paybis retail investor trading data from August 2023 through August 2026 showed BTC made up 42.21% of first transactions and 42.67% of second transactions. ETH accounted for 10.39% and 10.82%, respectively, while stablecoins fell from 15.29% to 11.83%. In second transactions, the combined share of ETH and stablecoins stood at 22.65%, or about half of BTC's share.

Unlike major crypto exchanges such as Binance and Coinbase, Paybis is focused on crypto on/off-ramp services that let users buy and sell digital assets with fiat currencies.

Current macroeconomic conditions are weakening Bitcoin demand, and a broader correction across the cryptocurrency market is likely unless the backdrop improves quickly, crypto analyst Darkfost said.
Darkfost said spot demand for Bitcoin is struggling to hold current levels, with spot-demand indicators turning negative over the past 24 hours. Futures demand remains positive, but the trend has clearly weakened, Darkfost said. On the institutional side, macro conditions are not strong enough for investors to take on the risk of assets such as Bitcoin, while the Coinbase Premium Index has remained negative for several days, according to the analyst. Darkfost added that U.S. ETF flows are also showing net outflows across crypto ETFs, including Bitcoin products. As a result, macroeconomic and geopolitical news is now driving the market, and the White House could make announcements aimed at addressing a sharp rise in bond yields, Darkfost said.

Bitcoin demand is gradually recovering, but the pickup is still not strong enough to confirm the start of a full-fledged bull market, on-chain analyst Julio Moreno said. Moreno said Bitcoin’s apparent demand indicator has recently turned positive again, while the pace of demand contraction since May and June has continued to narrow, signaling a gradual improvement in the market’s supply-demand imbalance. Moreno added, however, that current demand strength is similar to the level seen during the limited rebound in 2024 and remains far from the strong, sustained demand growth recorded during the major rallies in late 2024 and 2025. At this stage, Moreno said, the market appears closer to a stabilization phase in which demand declines have stopped, rather than a broad-based expansion in demand, and stronger inflows are still needed to support a sustained price rise. BTC was trading at $77,230 on CoinMarketCap at the time of writing.

Coinone’s first hearing in its lawsuit seeking to cancel a partial business suspension imposed by South Korea’s Financial Intelligence Unit has been rescheduled to Nov. 25 from Sept. 16, Bizwatch reported.
The Seoul Administrative Court’s 10th Administrative Division changed the hearing date after the court issued an order in June requiring both sides to prepare clarifications and the FIU requested an extension, according to the report. The change means Coinone’s first hearing will be held about seven months after the exchange filed the administrative suit on April 27.
Bithumb’s case has also been delayed. Its first hearing, initially set for Aug. 13, was later moved to Oct. 22 after the exchange filed suit in March. Market observers interpret the delays as a sign the FIU is taking a cautious approach after losing a similar case against Dunamu. Dunamu filed suit in February last year and won its first trial ruling after one year and two months, though the FIU has since appealed the decision.

A large volume of previously underwater BTC supply has quickly returned to profit as Bitcoin recovered recently, on-chain analyst Axel Adler Jr. said. Adler said on-chain data showed the 90-day rate of change in the share of supply in profit fell to -19% in early August, meaning a substantial amount of supply shifted from profit to loss over the prior three months. As BTC then rebounded, the indicator surged to +41% in September, indicating that a large amount of supply moved back into profit within just a few weeks. Adler added that periods with a higher rate of change than the current level accounted for only about 4% of Bitcoin’s total trading days.
Still, Adler said such a sharp recovery does not guarantee further gains. A meaningful part of the recent rise was driven by a mechanical price repricing tied to a short squeeze, Adler said, adding that it still needs to be confirmed whether sustained spot buying led the increase in supply returning to profit. Historically, when the 90-day rate of change climbed to extremely high levels, momentum often faded quickly and was followed by either a correction or sideways trading, Adler added.

XRP Healthcare, an XRPL-based blockchain and healthcare project, announced on its official X account that it is shutting down. The project said it had spent heavily over the past three years while enduring a bear market, continuing to invest in the ecosystem, and pursuing exchange listings, but failed to deliver results. It added that a hack involving XRPH on Sept. 3 increased financial and operational pressure, and the team is now coordinating delisting schedules for its XRPH and XRPHAI tokens with exchanges.
A security incident on Sept. 3 affected 4,011 XRPH wallet users, with about $452,000 worth of XRPH stolen. Following the shutdown announcement, XRPH fell about 80%. The token was trading at $0.0006097, down 80%, according to CoinMarketCap.

Binance’s Bitcoin reserves have surpassed 693,000 BTC, reaching their highest level in two years and accounting for about 30% of total BTC reserves held by major crypto exchanges, according to a CryptoQuant analysis by contributor Darkfost.
Darkfost said Binance’s BTC reserves have increased by about 77,000 BTC since late April. After price gains in May and more recently, some investors may have moved BTC to exchanges with the intention of selling, which may have contributed to the increase in reserves, Darkfost said. Darkfost added a sharp rise in exchange BTC reserves can act as potential selling pressure on the market, although BTC transfers to exchanges do not necessarily indicate actual selling and may also reflect custody needs or internal fund movements.

Eight people indicted on charges including fraud, Electronic Financial Transactions Act violations, Specified Financial Information Act violations, quasi-receipt violations and criminal proceeds concealment were given prison terms or suspended sentences by the Seoul Northern District Court on Aug. 19, Edaily reported. The two masterminds behind the scheme were each sentenced to 14 years in prison.
The head of the sales organization was sentenced to eight years, while four other accomplices received prison terms ranging from four to seven years. One person involved only in the quasi-receipt scheme was given a one-year prison term suspended for two years and ordered to complete 80 hours of community service.
The group compiled false white papers and business plans by patching together existing materials and documents from other companies, then recruited people to lend their names and issued and sold nearly 30 coins in succession. When listings on overseas exchanges proved difficult, the group manipulated investors' apps to show coins had been delivered even when no actual tokens were issued, and used wash trading to artificially lift exchange prices and make the coins appear to be trading normally.

Blockstream said it will not pay the ransom demanded in exchange for the return of BTC stolen from the Liquid Network. The company said taking assets without authorization and refusing to return them is a crime, not a white-hat activity, and stressed it will not set a precedent in which open-source software developers pay excessive ransoms to recover stolen assets. Blockstream added that if the stolen BTC is not returned, it will work with law enforcement agencies, exchanges and forensic experts to trace and recover the assets and use all legal means to identify those responsible. Earlier, the attacker behind the Liquid Network hack returned only 3,400 BTC and refused to return the rest, claiming the remaining amount qualified as a white-hat reward.

Metaplanet, a Japan-listed company pursuing a Bitcoin accumulation strategy, is facing pushback from some shareholders over a large executive stock option package, Cointelegraph reported.
The controversy centers on Metaplanet’s 10th executive stock option plan, which was structured at 20% of fully diluted shares. Under the plan, the size of the options granted to management would also rise if the company issues more new shares to fund Bitcoin purchases. Some shareholders argued this could keep diluting the value of existing holdings and called for the cancellation of options tied to 273 million newly added shares during the revision process, along with greater transparency around the related decision-making procedures. In response, Bitcoin Magazine CEO David Bailey argued a compensation plan allocating management a 20% fully diluted stake over five years was not far outside normal practice. Criticism has continued among some shareholders over the scale of executive compensation and the ongoing risk of share dilution.
